6 DoF 2,500 lb Motion Platform

The feature "Deep Blue Sea" needed to simulate a large shark unwilling giving a man a ride on his back. The motion had to match a computer-generated shark already completed. This was accomplished by matching keyframes from video.
The 6DoF2500 can accommodate a wide variety of payload. Shown here from Chicago Hope a helicopter simulates the motion of flying along then something goes wrong and the ride turns rough eventually crashing into a building.
This Learjet cockpit was the subject of a landing gone bad from the "Expendables". This shot had rain pouring down, fierce winds and sparks and flames going by the cockpit window. This was the ideal situation for this motion platform.
Our light duty 6-axis base is our most agile and responsive motion platform. It is used more often and on more projects with a wide variety payload than the others. Pictured above with the "T" top configuration, this base has a variety of tops for as many different uses. It has a maximum payload capacity of 2,500 lbs. with a safe working payload of 1,800 lbs or less. As with all of our motion bases this unit is operated and programmed by the industry standard Kuper Systems. Operation and programming is done in several ways including the real-time input method using the Waldo unit.

Our Medium duty 4-axis base is unique in design in that it sits very low to the ground (36") yet will raise to about 64 inches. Shown above is our rackmount turntable mounted to the top of the platform, this combination makes this platform very versatile. The turntable is servomotor driven with the capability of rotating 360 degrees endlessly. Because the turntable is an adjustable rackmount, virtually anything can be mounted to it. Automobiles of all types are ideal for this platform/turntable combination.

As with all of our motion bases this unit is operated and programmed by the industry standard Kuper Systems. Operation and programming is done in several ways including the real-time input method using the Waldo unit. In addition to this manual type of programming we have work extensively with computer generated moves from animation programs such as Maya and 3D Studio Max.

A 22' diameter plexiglass deck with hundreds of lights mounted below it was used for a Janet Jackson video. The motion platform was used as a means to tilt the dancing platform for Janet and friends.

On Wild Wild West the 4 DoF platform was used without the turntable to put motion to the head of the mechanical spider. The head weighed in at about 11,000 lbs with payload and fourteen actors. The head pitched forward fifteen degrees as actors struggled to stay on. The shot was a hugh crane move from 30' below the deck to about 30' above the deck. In addition to the platform we built a swivel base that the motion platform was mounted to. This swivel allowed the platform and set to swing 45 degrees left to right with the pivot point 12' behind the center of the platform.

On the feature "The Sixth Day" a futuristic helicopter was mounted on the platform to simulate typical helicopter motion along with near crash type motion.
